Yesterday, students from our Aspen and Birch classrooms enjoyed a special visit from Saskatchewan Roughriders Wide Receiver, Dhel Duncan-Busby, who spent time reading a book aloud and talking with them about the importance of literacy, teamwork, and perseverance.

This special visit created an engaging connection between learning and real-life role models, inspiring students to value reading while also seeing how dedication and positive choices extend beyond the classroom and into the wider community.

As part of our Human Body Unit we are learning about the importance of nutrition! Together, we prepared a delicious vegetable soup. We washed, peeled, and cut using real tools! Our favourite vegetable to peel was the carrot and our favourite to cut were the potatoes, itβs a bit tricky! π₯ π₯ We had so much fun working as a team and learning about healthy foods to fuel our body.

Our friends at the Pasqua Campus this morning were working with the Sensorial Materials! The Sensorial Materials in the Montessori Pre-Primary Classroom help children build their senses and develop skills like classification, comparison, discrimination, vocabulary, and focused attention π€―!
The best part of the Pre-Primary classroom happens when asked to explain what they built; which they promptly informed our teachers, an airport! So much amazing creativity, care, and attention in the Sensorial area today! Great work young learners!

Lately, our Birch classroom has been delighted in discovering how animals adapt to winterβs chilly changes. Through stories, experiments and hands-on activities, they have been learning how some animals grow thicker fur, others migrate to warmer places, and some curl up to hibernate until spring.

Exploring winter habitats sparks curiosity, builds early science skills, and helps the students understand the rhythms of natureβall while fostering empathy for the animals that share our world.

βοΈβTwas the week before the holiday break, and MSR Elementary was an extremely busy place! βοΈ
On Tuesday, we held a showcase for the grade 5-8 students to show off the songs that they learned with School of Rock over the last eight weeks. The students all worked very hard on their performances, and they did an amazing job! Thank you to School of Rock for sharing their space with us and for supporting our students on this musical journey! As well, thank you to all the parents who came out to watch the show! πΆ
Thursday brought the Holiday Market! Our grade 3-5 students created their own holiday businesses and worked hard to promote them around the school! From ornaments and holiday crafts to yummy treats and drinks, there were so many fun products to choose from. The market was a huge success! ποΈ
And, of course, though all of this, we had our Holiday Spirit Week! The halls of elementary were filled with students sporting holiday hats, festive flannel, ugly sweaters, winter character costumes, and cozy pajamas! We also had fun activities like school-wide musical chairs, bouncy castle fun, movies, and many (so so many) treats.
We hope you all have a restful holiday break! See you in January!

The most beautiful aspect of Montessori is our students having the opportunity to enhance their skills, learning, and development self-directed in their own way. Our learners are exploring winter animals through hands-on, meaningful work - studying penguins with three-part cards, sorting animals by hibernation, migration, and adaptation, exploring the winter animals shelf, and discovering textures in our sensory tray with rice and animal figures. Every activity invites curiosity, independence, and thoughtful learning. π§π¦π»

Our friends are working with a language material called the Moveable Alphabet! It is a beautiful wooden box containing 26 different compartments, each containing wooden letters! Guess what? The vowels are blue and the consonants are red! Our students are working with the material hands-on, allowing them to build words without using a pencil and paper. What an amazing pre-writing tool!
