Montessori’s “care of environment” is a practical life skill that teaches children responsibility, independence, and respect for their surroundings. This extends from simple tasks like wiping a table or sweeping to more complex ones like gardening, food preparation, or arranging flowers.
Activities like cleaning, organizing, and tending to nature, helps children foster independence and a sense of community. The ultimate goal is to develop environmental stewardship and a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things by involving children in the care of their physical world.

The Knobbed Cylinders are a Sensorial learning material used to help children develop visual discrimination of size and dimension, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination. The set consists of four wooden blocks, each containing ten cylinders with small knobs for griping. This beautiful material is self-correcting allowing children to identify and fix the mistake without adult intervention. What an amazing way to foster independence, concentration, logical reasoning, and sense of accomplishment 💪🏻 ❤️.

Who helps us learn? Who keeps our streets clean? Who makes sure we have food to eat? Birch classroom has been exploring all things about Community Helpers this month! They were thankful to have special presentations from real world community helpers to further their learning. The class was excited to ask questions and hear important information from these everyday heroes.
This theme helps children foster an understanding of various professions, build respect and empathy for others, and learn about the vital roles that make a community function smoothly.
Thank you to all of our community helpers who truly are our everyday heroes!

Our little Saplings Palaeontologists continued their study about dinosaurs. They made their very own dinosaur fossils! The best part was using hammers & chisels to discover what was inside!
There is always so much fun to be had in our Creative Arts program! RAWR!

Did you know the continents around the world? Our Cedar classroom students sure do! 🌍
For #HillsdaleTuesdays, we’re featuring our little explorers who have been busy diving into their continents lesson - from studying 3-part cards, to pin-poking and tracing each continent, to creating their very own poke-out globe. They even explored which animals can be found on each continent! 🐾✨
Learning about our world has never been this fun! 😀

The Montessori Golden Bead Work is a beautiful material that teaches our students the decimal system, place value (units, tens, hundreds, thousands), and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). The beautiful beads allow students to physically produce the quantities they are learning about!

Happy Thursday from Mayfield!
Students from Birch classroom and Aspen classroom have been enjoying their pin poking work lately.
In Montessori, pin poking (also called pin pricking/pin punching)refers to a fine motor activity where children use a pushpin with a large handle to encourage a proper pencil grip. They carefully poke holes along the outline of the shape. This activity develops essential skills such as hand-eye coordination, concentration, and fine motor strength for writing. Students feel a great sense of accomplishment when the shape is removed from the paper!

We interrupt our regular scheduled Montessori lessons to build LEGO! Why? Our students have been exploring the exciting continent of Europe! We’d like to make a pit stop in Billund, Denmark in 1932! Ole Kirk Christiansen, a Danish carpenter had the idea for LEGO! What started as a small workshop grew into a global brand! Wow! 🇩🇰
Our students have loved studying the continent of Europe. Stay tuned for our next pit stop and more fun adventures!
